The life I’ve always wanted
Note: While proofing this post before I published it, I felt like I was bragging and I don’t want that to be the perception. I use this blog as a place holder (a pensive if you Harry Potter fans will allow me) for the great things about each day as I know there will be tougher ones ahead. Having posts like this available for me to go back to will someday be invaluable.
My home has become a sacred place. When I come home from work, I have come to anticipate the great, great joy of hearing …
“DADDY, You home!”
… followed by the blur of a blond haired two year old streaking to crash into my legs and wrap himself around them.
That moment is precious.
Since Noah has started pre-school another thing has started showing up that provides me constant amazement and insight into his development of cognitive skills that are manifested in his weekly crafts projects.
I LOVE HAVING HIS ARTWORK ON MY REFRIGERATOR.
They are so simple, and that is what makes them so beautiful to me. I can loose myself in them, forget the stress of work, and just ground myself in the fact that the most important thing I do every day is to help shape my two little men.
In the above picture, we have our family tree (sans Bells), his owl inspired from reading Owl Babies, and his dog house from
I meant to post this a long time ago, but below is Noah’s first project. He did it with Mom back in May at the Jacksonville Public Library, I hope it at least makes you smile 🙂
Working Out
So I have started doing a Bootcamp through work… it really really sucks. It is kicking my butt and it feels good.
I am thinking that I should have Sherry do this with me.
Koders purchased
So for those of you that have not heard, I am working at a great new company called Hashrocket, based out at the beach. More on that later, but I wanted to also fill you in that my old company has been purchased by Black Duck as of last week.
I keep tabs on the news reports that are coming out about it, and this is the closest thing I have to a mention in them:
But Levin says Koders’ three employees, including Rush, will be retained on a consulting basis, and will continue to work from their current location in Santa Monica.
Check out the full article at Xconomy.
The move actually makes a lot of sense, as Black Duck offers larger companies insight into their open source usage, and Koders obviously knows a thing or two about that industry.
Introducing McDonald 3.0
Just wanted to show off my son to you guys. If you would like to read more check out the family blog.
Coming Soon: New Baby for McDonald Family
As posted by my wife on our family blog, we are going to induce labor to expedite the arrival of our second child if he has not come by that point. We are very excited and can’t wait to share him with the world!
Moved into the office
This news is actually two weeks old, but I have moved into the new office. The complete project took a lot longer then expected, but that is mainly due to the fact that I hated sanding.
Doing the demo, insulation, putting up the dry wall… no problem, even throwing “mud” on the walls was no issue, but sanding that mud, and adding more and resanding was very very painful.
But after I got to a point where I didn’t care I decided it was good enough, and that I would add some texture to the paint, and no one would be the wiser.
At the same time, my mom decided to move so I had some extra office furniture at my disposable. I am also fortunate enough to have friends with some interior design skills (or just good taste) that helped me lay out the room. All in all I would say it is a great improvement, and I will be posting a final video shortly.
Rebirth
Does anyone still read this? If so then here is what is going to happen. I have decided that I am going to blog things that I find interesting, funny or just plain stupid. I have finally changed jobs to a company that fits me perfectly and I am being exposed to a bunch of cool new things. These things are going to be technical and I am not going to slow down for those of you that don’t understand. So hold on tight cause I am going to lay down some science here, and be painfully honest… because my hiatus has taught me that, honesty and introspection along with pointing people to something new is that makes for a good read.
And for those of you wondering… here is why I have been so slack about posting:

Here is Noah Whatley. He was born on 2/8/06 at 12:25pm. He was 21.5 inches long and weighed 8 lbs 13 ozs. He is perfect.
House Update
We should be moving into our new house this weekend. Hopefully I will be able to start blogging more consitently then.
The new job is good. Sherry is good. I will explain more about each later. Thank you all for the comments, and I promise to do better with the posting.
All Good
I think we have sold our house. We have verbally accepted an offer for 94% of our asking price. Less then we had said we would take, but after the decision was made we knew it was the right one… no since in getting greedy, I mean we are making 63% return on our investment. That is just sick!
And we will have close to 50% equity in our house in Jacksonville.
I have also had 5 moving companies come give me estimates and it is going to cost more then I had originally thought.
